I would like to request admin rights for this Wikia so that I can enhance the layout and design so that wikians can find information easier and clearer. Editing the Navigation Bar and the Special:CSS requires admin powers. Using the CSS makes the pages less messy with code because I can use <div> & <span>.
Sorry, I've been gone for the holidays. I've looked over your edits, and what you've done at Divinity Wikia. We really could use someone who knows a bit about CSS. One thing, try to base sizes in CSS on rem. Ideally, use two statements, one with px followed by one with rem (assume 16px=1rem). For instance:
line-height: 20px; line-height: 1.25rem;
I really want to stay away from fixed sizes and go by the users settings in the browser. After that, I'd like to keep pages flow-able (so content moves to fill browser size and try to limit horizontal scrolling to almost never).
% (define a new font size based on the current size)
em (an old term, now used to define a new font size based on the current font size)
rem (like em, but instead of current font size, it's based on the root font size)
All browsers likely support all 5 by now. Rem may be a little less supported, but really started getting used due to mobile devices having different DPI than standard devices.
The way I set up the wiki was, to default the root size to what size the user has set in their browser options (a lot of browsers default to 16px). Then I based all the sizes off that root size. Using just px can cause issues with users being able to adjust the font size.
Using % and em could work, but there is one issue with it. If you nest font size changes inside font size changes, it can become an issue. For instance, if you put in a template 125% or 1.25em, then include that template in a div that also has 125% or 1.25em, you get 156.25% or 1.5625em. This can be confusing to figure out as it looks fine in the code for each page.
Using rem keeps the issue from happening. Just in case someone is using an old browser that doesn't support rem, I put px in front. If a browser does support rem, it changes the size to px, then changes the size to rem. If it doesn't, it changes the size to px, then ignores the rem.
I would like to request admin rights for the GD wiki.
There are a few things I believe need to be done which require such rights, particularly deletion of redundant or duplicate images and pages, and a few things regarding the site's aesthetics. I hope you find me suitable.
